About

My name is Ian, I am an engineer and I live in London with my Japanese wife, Chiho and our 3 children. We visit Japan every year and stay with my wife’s family in Mie. Chiho and I met in Taipei and that is where she introduced me to Japanese cuisine. Taiwan has very close ties with Japan and it is easy to get good Sushi and there are plenty of Ramen bars and Teppanyaki restaurants. It wasn’t until my first trip to Japan in 2005 that I discovered that Japanese food served elsewhere in the world is just a pale imitation of the real thing and consequently I have travelled to Japan whenever I could since I made that discovery.

Of course there is lots more to see and do in Japan besides just eating and drinking and in this blog I will tell you about all sorts of things such cities I have visited and what there is to see and do there.

I am a railway engineer so you will find plenty of details about our trips on Japanese trains as well as how to buy tickets and interpret the timetables.

I will also provide details and reviews of all the hotels we stay at when we travel around Japan. We love to go to the Onsen and I will provide reviews and details of all the difference Onsen we visit.

I am aware that Japan is a very expensive place compared to most other countries, so I always try to find ways to travel on a budget.

I welcome any feedback or any recommendations of places for us to visit when we are next in Japan.
